  • The main business street, Washington, runs along a ridge above the valley of Slate Creek and has several interesting turn-of-the-century buildings. Downtown Wellington offers pleasant shopping in a variety of stores.
  • The city lake west of town has extensive parks and campgrounds
  • The Memorial Auditorium downtown is an impressive memorial to the veterans of World War I. The Harlem Globetrotters have played here.
  • Bones from a giant woolly mammoth are on display at the County Courthouse.
  • You can fish in Slate Creek in Woods Park.
  • The City Council meeting room has a mural by Stan Herd.
  • The golf course along US 160 is considered one of the state's best.

New Developments

The city has experienced great growth, both residentially and commercially, with the addition of housing developments and a booming east-side business district.

South Ash Utility Construction

Intersection of Mill & Ash to be closed Tuesday - June 1, 2010 for Hargis Pipelines Sewer Project.

Mill Street should be reopened by Wednesday - June 2. Ash Street North of Mill, however, will be closed on a block by block basis as the sewer line construction progresses north.

Widening of East US-160 Highway

Hillside will be closed between Clark and H Street for bridge repair and widening. This project will take approximately three months to complete.
