In order to operate Amusement Devices, an Amusement Device License must be obtained from the City Clerk's Office. An Amusement Device is defined as any machine or device which is coin operated or otherwise available for hire, which machine or device permits a person or operator to use the device as a game or contest of skill, whether or not registering a score. It shall include, but not be limited to, such devices as electronic or mechanical game machines, shooting gallery type games, pinball machines, skee ball, bowling machines, or any other mechanical or electronic games or operations similar thereto.

The application and fee must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office 15 days in advance of the City Council Meeting at which the license will be considered. Upon completion of the application form, the Wellington Police Department will run a records check on all applicants. The Wellington Fire Department will inspect the premises to ascertain compliance with the fire codes and/or ordinances of the city. When the application is approved, staff will then place the application on the agenda for the next City Council Meeting for approval. Any person wanting to open a Liquor Store, Class A, Class B, or Drinking Establishment in the City of Wellington will need to obtain a license.
Before you may obtain a license you will need to purchase your state license from the State of Kansas Department of Revenue, Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. They are located in Topeka and can be reached by phone at 1-877-526-7738. Your state license is then presented to the City Clerk's Office and a copy is made for the city's records. Upon payment of the fee, the City Clerk shall issue a City License. Hours of operation for serving alcoholic liquor are between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 A.M. If your business has more than 30% in food sales, you may sell alcoholic liquor on Sundays in addition to your Monday through Saturday sales.

The tax herein specified shall be due and payable on January 1st of each year, and if the same is not paid on or before March 1st a penalty of $1.00 shall be charged in addition to the license fee, plus an additional penalty of $.50 per month thereafter, until the license fee is paid. In order to sell fireworks within the city limits of Wellington, you must first obtain a license from the City Clerk's Office. No person, firm or corporation shall store, sell, possess or discharge fireworks at temporary retail stands or other locations, or deliver within the City of Wellington, Kansas, retail fireworks before 12:00 p.m. the 30th day of June and after 12:00 p.m. on the 5th day of July. Any person wishing to operate a mobile home park within the corporate limits of Wellington shall obtain a Mobile Home Park License issued by the City of Wellington. The annual fee for each mobile home park shall be $50 or $5 for each mobile home space, whichever is greater. All licenses shall be good for a calendar year and expire December 31st of that same year. Any license issued prior to July 1st of any year shall pay the annual fee; any license issued after July 1st of any year shall pay one-half of the annual fee, (this only pertains to new parks).
Renewal notices for existing parks will be sent out each November with the fee due and payable on or before December 31st of that year.
