The Public Works Department is used to provide general management of Street, Sanitation, Park, Cemetery, Lake, Auditorium, Compost, Recycling, Transfer Station, C & D Landfill, and Janitorial Departments: with 27 full time and 11 seasonal and/or part time employees. The Public Works staff is responsible for the following functions and services:
Plan, coordinate, and review daily work functions of Public Works Departments.
Reviews purchase orders, assists with the plans and specifications for bids and purchases.
Assist with the annual budget preparation and regularly monitors departmental budgets and financial reports.
Make recommendations to the City Manager on personnel issues and assist departments with hiring, promoting, disciplining and dismissal decisions of employees. Complete employee performance evaluations of department supervisors and review evaluations of departmental employees. Review and recommend employee training. Review all time cards and accident reports. Assist employees as needed with problem solving of work and personal issues.
Attend council meetings to provide input and information as needed to prepare reports for consideration. Staff representative at monthly Park Board meetings to assist this advisory group with the necessary information needed for fact-finding, and problem solving. Prepare monthly agenda and various reports for board.
Coordinate with the Recreation Commission to provide for availability of safe and well-maintained City facilities for use by their recreation programs. Work with special interest groups to provide information, attend meetings, resolve problems, and assist in coordinating City services for community activities and special events. Work to promote Wellington and quality municipal services.
Work with county, state, and federal representatives on grants, plans and projects.
Serve on a variety of internal committees as requested or appointed by the City Manager.
