The Building and Codes Department is responsible for all aspects of construction, zoning and planning within the City of Wellington. The department handles permitting, contractor licensing, code compliance and building inspections – both residential and commercial. The City of Wellington has adopted the 2015 I-Codes and the 2014 NEC. City ordinances applying to zoning, planning and building, are enforced by Building and Codes staff. The City of Wellington has exercised its authority for Extraterritorial Zoning. The City’s zoning ordinances are enforced for land located outside the city but within three miles of its boundaries.

The Building and Codes Department is a sub-department under Public Works. Staffing consists of a Building Official, Engineering Aide/Zoning Official, and a Code Official.
